Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently announced that the BJP would implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across Jharkhand if it wins in the upcoming state elections. He assured voters that tribal communities would be exempt from the UCC to respect their cultural heritage and unique legal needs. This statement was made as part of BJP’s manifesto release in Ranchi on November 3, 2024, ahead of the two-phase election set for later this month.
The manifesto also emphasized BJP’s commitment to welfare schemes, proposing measures like providing Rs 2,100 monthly support for women and subsidized LPG cylinders at Rs 500, with two free cylinders annually for households. Shah also promised five lakh job opportunities for the youth and the initiation of anti-corruption measures, particularly tackling paper leak incidents that have troubled Jharkhand’s students. The manifesto further aims to combat illegal infiltration, a topic Shah highlighted as a threat to local resources and traditions.
Shah criticized the current government, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, accusing it of failing to address these pressing issues and protect the rights of tribal communities. By positioning the BJP as a protector of “Roti, Beti, Maati” (livelihood, daughters, and land), Shah pledged to bring in policies that would preserve Jharkhand’s cultural integrity while boosting its economic growth and employment opportunities
