India’s Commitment to Repatriate Undocumented Citizens from the U.S.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has recently highlighted the significant threat posed by organized crime, particularly gangs, to Indian nationals abroad. In a recent statement, the MEA emphasized that while various challenges confront the Indian diaspora, the menace of gangs remains a pressing concern.

This assertion comes in the wake of multiple incidents involving Indian nationals. For instance, the tragic death of Vivek Saini, who was fatally attacked by a homeless individual in Lithonia, Georgia, USA, underscores the vulnerabilities faced by Indians overseas. The MEA has confirmed that the perpetrator has been apprehended and that local authorities are actively investigating the matter.

Furthermore, the MEA has been addressing concerns related to Indian nationals entangled in gang-related activities abroad. In Canada, for example, India has shared security-related information with the Canadian government regarding members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and other criminal organizations, seeking their arrest. However, as of the latest reports, no action has been taken by Canadian authorities, which remains a core concern for India.

The MEA’s proactive stance reflects its commitment to safeguarding Indian citizens globally. By highlighting the dangers posed by gangs, the ministry aims to raise awareness and prompt collaborative efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of Indians residing or traveling abroad.
