
A devastating road accident claimed the life of 26-year-old probationary IPS officer Harsh Bardhan, just as he was about to begin his first posting. The accident occurred near Kittane village in Karnataka’s Hassan district on December 1, 2024, when a tyre of the police vehicle he was traveling in burst, causing the car to lose control and crash into a tree and a house.
Promising Career Cut Short
Harsh Bardhan, a 2023-batch IPS officer from the Karnataka cadre, had recently completed his training at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru. He was en route to assume his role as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Holenarasipur. A native of Madhya Pradesh, Bardhan was highly regarded for his dedication and achievements, including securing the 153rd rank in the UPSC exams on his first attempt.

The young officer sustained severe head injuries and passed away while undergoing treatment at a local hospital. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Manjegowda, sustained minor injuries and is under medical care. Reports highlight that Bardhan was deeply respected by his colleagues and superiors, making the loss particularly poignant for the police fraternity.
