In a dramatic turn of events on October 17, 2024, two individuals accused in the Bahraich violence case were shot at by Uttar Pradesh Police while attempting to flee to Nepal. According to police sources, the incident occurred near the Indo-Nepal border when the accused, who were involved in the communal unrest in Bahraich earlier this month, tried to escape law enforcement custody.
The accused were reportedly being transported under police escort when they made a sudden attempt to break free and head towards Nepal. Local authorities had heightened security measures along the border following reports that several suspects in the violence were planning to cross into Nepal to evade arrest. As the two accused made a dash towards the border, police fired warning shots, but when the individuals continued to flee, the officers opened fire, injuring them both.
They were apprehended and immediately taken to a local hospital where they are being treated for their injuries.
