Abhishek Bachchan recently opened up about an emotional moment on the set of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (KANK) that left him in tears. During the filming of a scene where his character announces the death of Amitabh Bachchan’s character, Abhishek was struck by the reality that he was talking about his own father. This realization overwhelmed him, and he broke down after the scene was shot.
Abhishek shared that when he saw his father’s photograph during the scene, he was hit with a wave of emotion. “I looked and thought, wait a second, this is my dad. How can I say he’s dead, he’s not, he’s waiting in the hotel for me. And I say my line. Karan said, ‘cut, got it’. I got up, I went to the side and I just broke down,” Abhishek said. Karan Johar, the director of the film, immediately recognized the depth of Abhishek’s feelings and hugged him. Karan himself became emotional, remembering his own late father, Yash Johar, for whom he had written the scene. The intense emotions on set led to others, including co-star Rani Mukerji, breaking down as well, even though she didn’t know the exact reason.
Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna was the third film that featured Abhishek and Amitabh together after Bunty Aur Babli (2005) and Sarkar (2005). The film, directed by Karan Johar, showcased the father-son duo in different roles that earned them much praise. However, the film itself received mixed reactions from audiences.
As the film marks 18 years since its release, this heartfelt moment shared by Abhishek offers a glimpse into the powerful and personal connections that the actors brought to the screen. This behind-the-scenes story adds another layer of depth to a film that has become a significant part of Indian cinema.
