PM Modi Begins Laos Visit with Buddhist Blessings and Cultural Diplomacy

On October 10, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi commenced a two-day visit to Laos to participate in key summits marking the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit. His trip is significant as it celebrates the 10th anniversary of India’s “Act East” policy, which has fostered closer economic, cultural, and political ties between India and Southeast Asia.

Upon his arrival in Vientiane, PM Modi was welcomed warmly by Laotian officials, including a ceremonial guard of honor. He also engaged with the Indian diaspora, who expressed enthusiasm through traditional performances like the Bihu dance. A significant moment during his visit was a blessing ceremony led by senior Buddhist monks, underlining the shared cultural and religious heritage between India and Laos​(
