Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to receive Dominica’s highest civilian honor in recognition of India’s support during the COVID-19 crisis. The Caribbean nation will confer its prestigious “Sisserou Award of Honour” upon PM Modi, acknowledging India’s timely assistance in providing essential medical supplies, vaccines, and expertise. This gesture highlights India’s increasing influence and soft power globally, especially among smaller nations that benefited from India’s diplomatic and humanitarian outreach during the pandemic.
India’s vaccine diplomacy, under the “Vaccine Maitri” program, distributed millions of doses to numerous countries, including Dominica. Modi’s government aimed to ensure equitable access to vaccines, with shipments arriving in Dominica at a crucial time when vaccines were scarce globally.
This award marks one of several international recognitions Modi has received in recent years for India’s expanding role in global health and humanitarian efforts. With this honor, India and Dominica’s relationship has deepened, showcasing India’s goodwill diplomacy efforts during times of crisis and reflecting positively on Modi’s international legacy.
