BJP Gags Ex-WFI Chief Brij Bhushan, Railways To Clear Vinesh Phogat & Bajrang Punia For Haryana Polls

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reportedly imposed a gag order on former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, restricting him from making public statements amid ongoing political tensions. This move comes as the party gears up for the Haryana assembly elections, with key athletes like Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia set to be cleared by the Railways to contest the polls.

Both Phogat and Punia, known for their achievements in wrestling, are expected to add significant weight to the BJP’s electoral campaign in Haryana, a state with a deep-rooted wrestling culture. The athletes’ entry into politics highlights the growing trend of sports personalities transitioning into public service. Their popularity and clean image could provide a major boost to the party’s campaign, especially in rural areas where they are considered role models.

The decision to gag Brij Bhushan, who had been embroiled in controversies during his WFI tenure, signals the BJP’s intent to distance itself from any negative press as it focuses on key political figures. The party’s strategy to include celebrated wrestlers may help them consolidate voter support, particularly among youth and sports enthusiasts.
