As Team India gears up for the upcoming home season with a two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting September 19, their journey towards the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 Final is heating up. India currently leads the WTC standings with six wins from nine matches and a 68.52 point percentage, making them top contenders for a third consecutive final.
To secure their spot in the WTC Final, India needs to win at least five of their remaining 10 matches. A strong start, particularly in the home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, would put them in a comfortable position before their challenging away series against Australia. If India can clinch victories in five or more matches, they can afford minor slip-ups and still qualify for the final.
Australia, the defending WTC champions, are in second place and need to win at least four of their remaining seven Tests to maintain a competitive position. However, if they suffer a heavy defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, their chances of making it to the final could be jeopardized.
New Zealand, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan are also in the running for the WTC Final. New Zealand must win five of their remaining eight matches to stay in contention, while Sri Lanka needs to secure six wins from nine matches to keep their hopes alive. Pakistan, with nine Tests left to play, must win at least six to remain in the race. A strong performance against England at home could see Pakistan pushing the Three Lions out of contention.
India’s path to the WTC Final is challenging but achievable. With a mix of home and away series ahead, every match will be crucial in their quest for a spot in the 2025 final.
