Suryakumar Yadav, India’s T20I captain, is determined to make a comeback in Test cricket. After making his Test debut against Australia in February 2023, he was dropped following a disappointing performance. Despite his success in T20Is, including helping India win the T20 World Cup 2024, Yadav now aims to play in all three formats. He plans to participate in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament for Mumbai, using it as a platform to push for a return to India’s Test squad.
Yadav’s resolve comes after India’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar stated that he is currently only considered for T20Is. However, Yadav remains hopeful and focused on showcasing his abilities in domestic cricket to regain his spot in the Test team. His ambition reflects his commitment to becoming a versatile cricketer for India, capable of contributing across all formats.
Suryakumar, who has featured in one Test, 37 ODIs, and 71 T20Is, acknowledges the challenges but remains determined to prove his mettle in the longer format. As he gears up for the upcoming domestic season, all eyes will be on his performance and whether it will earn him a recall to the Indian Test squad.
