“NCP May Go Solo in Mumbai; Pawar Backs AAP in Delhi”
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has hinted at a potential shift in his party’s strategy for the upcoming Mumbai civic polls. Speaking at a public gathering, Pawar suggested that the NCP might contest independently, stepping away from the INDIA bloc coalition in Maharashtra.
Pawar emphasized the importance of building the NCP’s grassroots strength in Mumbai, a city crucial to Maharashtra’s political landscape. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections have historically been a fiercely contested battle among regional and national parties, and Pawar’s statement signals his intent to carve a distinct identity for the NCP.
Interestingly, Pawar also expressed support for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi. He lauded AAP’s governance model, citing their efforts in education and healthcare as exemplary. By aligning with AAP ideologically in Delhi while hinting at a solo approach in Mumbai, Pawar appears to be focusing on both local and national dynamics.
Political analysts believe this move could reshape alliances within the INDIA bloc, a coalition formed to challenge the BJP in the 2024 general elections. Pawar’s remarks underline the evolving nature of political collaborations, particularly in urban electoral battles like the BMC polls.
