PM Modi Alleges Congress Plans to End Reservation: ‘Haryana Is Their Test State’

In a sharp political attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed on October 1, 2024, that the Congress party is planning to terminate the reservation system in India, using Haryana as a “test state” for their strategy. Speaking at a public rally in the state, Modi accused Congress of aiming to dismantle the constitutionally mandated quotas that have provided representation to marginalized communities, including Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC).

Haryana, which has witnessed significant political shifts recently, is being portrayed by Modi as a laboratory for Congress’s alleged anti-reservation moves. The BJP leader underscored that the Congress’s focus on Haryana could have repercussions across India. He urged the public to be vigilant, asserting that the party is plotting to reverse decades of progress made towards social equality. Modi’s remarks come at a time when the reservation policy remains a critical issue, deeply intertwined with India’s political landscape, particularly in northern states.

Modi’s statement serves as a reminder of the upcoming elections, with reservation policies being a critical element of electoral strategies. This claim has ignited widespread political debates, as reservation policies impact millions of Indian citizens, making it a high-stakes issue in Haryana and beyond. With caste-based politics continuing to shape Indian elections, the spotlight on Haryana is set to intensify further in the coming months.
