A shocking incident occurred at the Golden Temple in Amritsar when a man, later identified as Narain Singh Chaura, attempted to open fire at Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal. The incident unfolded during the early hours of December 4, 2024, while Badal, who was temporarily using a wheelchair due to a leg injury, was performing sewa (voluntary service). Security personnel in plain clothes managed to overpower the attacker before he could cause harm.
The bullet fired by Chaura missed its target and struck a wall. The police swiftly arrested the assailant and recovered the weapon. According to law enforcement, Chaura is a former member of Babbar Khalsa International and has a criminal history involving terror-related charges, including smuggling and jailbreaks. His motive for targeting Badal at such a high-security location remains under investigation
