External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar held a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington, D.C., marking Rubio’s first bilateral engagement since assuming office. The discussions covered a range of topics, including the current situation in Bangladesh and plans to intensify activities under the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad).
Focus on Bangladesh
Both leaders expressed concern over recent developments in Bangladesh, emphasizing the need for stability and democratic processes in the region. They agreed to monitor the situation closely and coordinate efforts to support peaceful resolutions.
Enhancing Quad Cooperation
Jaishankar and Rubio reaffirmed their commitment to the Quad framework, involving India, the United States, Japan, and Australia. They discussed strategies to enhance cooperation in areas such as maritime security, counterterrorism, and infrastructure development in the Indo-Pacific region.
