India has achieved a significant milestone by successfully test-firing the K-4 ballistic missile, capable of delivering nuclear payloads, from a submarine. This development is part of India’s effort to bolster its second-strike capability and enhance its strategic deterrence under the nuclear triad.
The K-4 missile, with a range of approximately 3,500 km, was launched from an underwater platform in the Bay of Bengal. It is designed for deployment on the indigenous Arihant-class nuclear-powered submarines. This test underscores India’s progress in indigenous defense technology and strengthens its position in maritime security.
Officials have highlighted the missile’s importance in ensuring credible deterrence against regional threats, aligning with India’s no-first-use nuclear policy. Defense analysts regard the test as a message of India’s readiness to address evolving security challenges in the Indo-Pacific
