The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed charges against former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with a money-laundering case linked to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). The charges involve allegations of financial mismanagement, money laundering, and irregularities in land allocations during Siddaramaiah’s tenure. The case has quickly become a flashpoint in Karnataka’s political landscape, with the Congress party rallying behind its senior leader.
Siddaramaiah, who remains a key figure within Congress, has categorically denied the charges, calling them politically motivated. “This is nothing but a ploy to tarnish my image ahead of the elections,” the veteran politician said in a statement. His party has echoed similar sentiments, with several Congress leaders accusing the BJP of using central agencies to intimidate political opponents. The timing of the case, with elections approaching, has only intensified these allegations.
Despite the charges, Congress has maintained a defiant stance, asserting that it is not afraid of such “tactics.” The party continues to focus on rallying its base, positioning Siddaramaiah as a leader victimized by political vendettas. On the other hand, the BJP has defended the ED’s actions, framing the investigation as part of its broader anti-corruption campaign. As the case unfolds, it will undoubtedly play a crucial role in Karnataka’s evolving political dynamics.
