A recent incident at Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport has highlighted the ongoing issue of taxi scams in the city. A woman was charged ₹3,000 for a ride that typically costs ₹450, falling victim to unscrupulous drivers exploiting unsuspecting passengers.
Modus Operandi
Scammers often approach travelers at the airport, offering rides at standard rates. Once the passenger is in the vehicle, they impose additional charges for tolls, luggage, or take longer routes to inflate the fare. In this case, the woman was coerced into paying an exorbitant amount for a short trip.
Authorities’ Response
Airport authorities and local police have been alerted to the increasing number of such scams. Passengers are advised to use official airport taxi services or reputable ride-hailing apps to avoid falling prey to these fraudulent practices.
