DAUSA, RAJASTHAN:
In a heart-wrenching incident, a 3-year-old girl in Rajasthan’s Dausa district passed away hours after being rescued from a borewell. The child, who fell into the 100-foot-deep borewell while playing, had been trapped for 10 agonizing days. Rescue operations led by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local authorities were carried out tirelessly to save her.
The operation involved heavy machinery to dig parallel trenches and precise manual efforts to reach the child. Despite the successful extraction, her prolonged entrapment caused severe health complications, and she succumbed shortly after being airlifted to a hospital.
This tragedy has reignited debates about the safety measures surrounding borewells. Experts and activists are demanding stricter implementation of regulations to seal unused borewells. Such incidents are not uncommon in India, with open borewells often posing a threat to unsuspecting children in rural areas.
Local officials have assured that an investigation will be conducted to identify lapses and prevent future occurrences. Social media has also seen an outpouring of grief, with citizens calling for better awareness and accountability in rural infrastructure management.
